Having your own Mac to use around campus is awesome, but let’s be honest–you probably don’t pack it up and tote it with you on every bathroom break. When you walk away from your computer it’s good to have someone watch it, but even so it’s better to have it locked until you get back.
Now you can use handyLock to provide you extra security and keep all of your information, files, and work safe and secure until you get back to your computer.
You use handyLock by pairing it with a Bluetooth device (like your iPhone). When you get out of range the computer will know and lock automatically, waiting for you to return. What makes it even better is that it will unlock automatically when you return so you don’t have to unlock it manually.
Just pair it in your Mac’s system preferences under the “Bluetooth” option. Then select a password just in case you do, for some reason, need to manually unlock your computer. From the device config tab select the device you just paired to pair it specifically to handyLock.
Put your phone where you usually keep it when working, whether it’s in your pocket, in your bag, or next to the computer on the table, and select “Take Reading”.
The computer will then read how far the device is from the computer and gauge a proper range to know how far away the device can be before it locks. Then when you’re ready to use it just select the “ON/OFF” switch to toggle the app on and off.
